Medicine and Metaphor
I am an equal opportunity doubter. I doubt the teachings of my own conventional medicine, knowing how readily we succumb to the transgression of close-mindedness, welcoming only news ensconced within the confines of our native comforts and conventions. I doubt the teachings of so-called Complementary and Integrative Medicine (CIM) as well, having seen them wander into the realm known pejoratively as “woo,” and perpetrate the opposing transgression: a mind so open that brains flop out.

Don’t Use Data Like Rousseau Paints Tigers
One of my favourite picture in the National Gallery is 'Tiger in a tropical storm' by Henri Rousseau. It shows a tiger stalking an unseen prey in a rain lashed jungle. It’s a wonderfully vibrant evocative image.

What Do You Do When Somebody Calls you Pretty Face?
“You look very pretty Rita” exclaimed our prospective customer. Embarrassed by his compliment I hurriedly looked at my colleague. Rita grinned at me and told him, “My husband was the first to compliment on this today”. The guy almost froze to the spontaneous reaction. The stunned customer never said a thing till we walked off his office. I gave her a high-five for her presence of mind as we left the building.
