Real Madrid and Germany legend Toni Kroos has announced his retirement from professional football following the Euro 2024 tournament.

Kroos, 34, shared his decision on Instagram, expressing gratitude to his fans and reflecting on his illustrious career.

Kroos joined Real Madrid from Bayern Munich in 2014, where he won the World Cup with Germany the same year. During his decade at Real Madrid, he secured four Champions League titles and four La Liga championships. Prior to that, he won three Bundesliga titles and the Champions League with Bayern Munich.

In his heartfelt statement, Kroos reminisced about his debut at Real Madrid and highlighted his commitment to retiring at his peak performance level. He thanked the Madridistas for their unwavering support and expressed his ambition to help Real Madrid clinch their 15th European Cup/Champions League title in the final against Borussia Dortmund at Wembley on June 1.

Kroos will also be part of Julian Nagelsmann's Germany squad for Euro 2024, aiming to add another trophy to his remarkable collection. Despite discussions over a new contract with Real Madrid, Kroos decided to end his career on his own terms, stating he couldn’t envision playing for another club.

Full Statement by Toni Kroos: "July 17th, 2014 - the day of my presentation at Real Madrid, the day that changed my life. My life as a footballer - but especially as a person. It was the start of a new chapter at the biggest club in the world. At the same time this decision means that my career as an active footballer will end this summer after the Euro championship. As I have always said: Real Madrid is and will be my last club. I am happy and proud that I found the right timing for my decision and that I could choose it by myself. My ambition was always to finish my career at the peak of my performance level. From now on there is only one leading thought: a por la 15!!! HALA MADRID Y NADA MAS!

After 10 years, at the end of the season this chapter comes to an end. I will never forget this incredibly successful time! I would particularly like to thank everyone that welcomed me with an open heart and trusted me. But especially I would like to thank you, dear Madridistas, for your affection and your love from the first day until the last one."

Kroos's retirement marks the end of a remarkable era in football, leaving behind a legacy of excellence and professionalism.
